If your GivEnergy battery shows as Paused in the app or portal, it will not charge or
discharge. This guide explains what “Paused” means, why it happens, and how to safely restore
normal operation.
Why Your Battery May Be Paused
Your battery may enter a paused state for several reasons, including:
- External control systems overriding your settings (supplier integrations, Home Assistant, etc.)
- Conflicting charge/discharge schedules in the Portal or App
- A manual pause applied via the Portal’s Remote Control page
- Firmware or settings inconsistencies
Before starting, temporarily disable external controls (energy supplier apps, Home Assistant,
third-party optimisers) to avoid reintroducing the pause while you fix the issue.
Step 1 - Check the Pause Status in the Portal
The Portal shows the most accurate live status of whether your battery is paused.
- Go to givenergy.cloud and log in.
- Open My Inverter and click the right-hand Settings cog.
- Select Remote Control.
- At the top, select Battery (this menu may not appear for Gen 1 batteries).
- Locate Pause Battery and click the circular Refresh icon to fetch the
live status.
If it shows “Not paused”: Your issue is caused by something else.
See the Basic Diagnostic Steps (Start Here) guide.
If it shows “Paused”: continue below.
Step 2 - Unpause the Battery
If the Portal shows your battery is paused, follow these actions:
- Click the dropdown next to Pause Battery and select Not paused.
- Click the triangular Submit button to apply the change.
- Wait 10–15 seconds.
- Click the circular Refresh icon again to confirm it now stays as Not paused.
If the battery switches back to “Paused” a few seconds later, something external may be
overriding it — proceed to Step 3.
Step 3 - Check for External Controls Overriding Your Settings
If your battery keeps returning to “Paused,” an external system may be sending commands
to the inverter.
Common examples:
- Octopus / British Gas / energy supplier integrations
- Home Assistant automations
- Other third-party control software
Disable these integrations temporarily. Then repeat Step 2 to unpause the battery.
If the pause holds after this, you have found the cause.

Troubleshooting Unprompted Settings Changes
Step 4 - Reset Schedules (Optional but Recommended)
Conflicting or overlapping charge/discharge schedules may cause the battery to pause.
- Open My Inverter → Settings.
- Scroll to Reset settings to default.
- Click Reset settings to default → Submit.
This clears all charge/discharge slots and removes any conflict between time windows.
You can re-add your preferred schedule once the system returns to normal operation.

Step 5 - Retest Your System
- Check if charging/discharging resumes normally.
- Confirm the Portal consistently shows Not paused.
- Re-enable external controls one at a time to identify which one (if any) causes the pause.
When to Escalate
If your battery remains paused after completing the steps above, contact your installer or
GivEnergy Support. Include:
- Confirmation that you set the battery to Not paused
- Whether it reverts back to paused automatically
- Whether any external controls were in use
- Your inverter serial number
- A brief description of system behaviour

Tips
- “Paused” is almost always caused by a setting, not a hardware fault.
- Conflicting schedules and automations are the #1 cause.
- The Portal shows the most accurate pause status — use it over the app for diagnostics.
- Always retest behaviour before re-enabling external integrations.
