Inverter Not Meeting Load (System Not Powering the Home as Expected)

Inverter Not Meeting Load (System Not Powering the Home as Expected)

If your inverter is not meeting the home load as expected, the cause may be configuration, battery limits, insufficient PV generation, or system protection. This article explains how to diagnose load-related issues.

Symptoms

  • Grid import is higher than expected
  • Battery has charge but is not discharging into the home
  • PV is generating but not contributing to load

Key Checks

1. Check Battery Discharge Settings

  • Ensure Discharge Enabled is ON
  • Check minimum SOC limit

2. Check Power Limits

  • Discharge power limit may be too low
  • Some models have capped continuous output

3. Check System Mode

  • “Export First” mode may prioritise grid export over home load
  • Try switching to Load First

4. Check PV Generation

  • Low irradiance, shading, or string issues can limit available power
  • Verify PV voltage is present on both strings

5. Check for Paused Battery

  • If paused, battery will not support the load

When to Escalate

  • Battery has ample charge but still refuses to discharge
  • PV shows healthy generation but load remains grid-fed
  • You see repeated “Limit” messages or inverter derating

If the issue persists, send inverter live data screenshots and system configuration to your installer or GivEnergy Support for deeper analysis.
