How To Restart Your GivEnergy EV Charger

How To Restart Your GivEnergy EV Charger

Restart your GivEnergy EV charger to clear transient faults or reconnect the unit.

Safety and notes

  • The restart is done at your home’s consumer unit (fuse box), not on the charger itself.
  • If your installer fitted a dedicated isolation switch for the charger, you can use that instead of the consumer unit breaker.
  • Only operate clearly labeled switches. If anything trips immediately after turning it on, stop and contact your installer.

Step-by-step restart

1) Unplug the car

  • Disconnect the vehicle from the charger to ensure a clean restart.

2) Cut power at the consumer unit

  • Go to your consumer unit (fuse box).
  • Find the breaker labeled “EV Charger” (it should be labeled).
  • Switch the EV charger breaker to Off.
  • Wait 1 minute.

3) Restore power

  • Switch the EV charger breaker back to On.

Alternative: Use the isolation switch (if fitted)

  • If there’s a dedicated isolation switch near the charger:
    • Switch it to Off.
    • Wait 1 minute.
    • Switch it back to On.

4) Let it reconnect

  • Wait for the charger to reconnect to the app/cloud.
  • This typically takes under 30 seconds, but may take a few minutes—don’t worry if it isn’t instant.

When to escalate

  • If the breaker or isolation switch trips immediately when turned back on.
  • If the charger doesn’t reconnect after several minutes.
  • Contact your installer or GivEnergy support for further diagnostics.
