WiFi 6 Installation & Setup Guide

WiFi 6 Installation & Setup Guide

This guide explains how to install and configure the GivEnergy WiFi 6 Dongle. The process is the same for both internal and external WiFi 6 dongle models. Follow each step carefully to ensure your inverter connects securely to your home WiFi network. This is relevant for the All in One 2 and Gateway 2.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure your inverter is powered on.
  • Have your home WiFi password ready.
  • A phone, tablet, or laptop capable of connecting to WiFi networks is required.

Step 1 - Connect to the Dongle Hotspot

When powered, the dongle broadcasts its own temporary WiFi hotspot (e.g. WP2429G008). Connect to this network. There is no password by default.

Once connected, open a browser and go to: http://10.10.100.254

Step 2 - Log In and Change the Default Credentials

You will be prompted to log in. Factory defaults:

  • Username: admin
  • Password: admin1

You will then be required to set a new username and password. Your new password must:

  • Be at least 8 characters long
  • Include letters and numbers

If the dongle was previously reset, it may ask you to set a password immediately.

Step 3 - Dongle Reboot

After setting your login details, the dongle will reboot. Reconnect to the hotspot using your new password and log in again. You will now see the main System page.

Step 4 - Set the Work Mode

The Work Mode defines how the dongle communicates. Options include:

  • APSTAETHW (Default): Access Point + WiFi STA + Ethernet
(Recommended for most users, keeps the local hotspot available.)
  • STA Only: Disables the access point after a few minutes at startup.
(Use only if you intentionally want to remove the local hotspot.)

Step 5 - Scan for Your Home WiFi Network

Go to the STA Settings section and press Scan. A list of detected WiFi networks will appear. Choose your home WiFi. If multiple versions appear, select the one with the highest RSSI value (strongest signal).

Step 6 - Enter Your WiFi Password

Enter your WiFi password exactly as written (case-sensitive). Tick “Show Password” to confirm accuracy before pressing Save.

You may choose DHCP or set a static IP—most users should leave this as Automatic.

You will be prompted to reboot. Ignore this for now and continue to Step 7.

Step 7 - Secure the Access Point

By default, the dongle’s access point is unencrypted. It is strongly recommended that you enable wireless security:

  • Security Mode: WPA2-PSK
  • Encryption: AES
  • Create a secure password (you will use this to reconnect later)

Press Save to apply these changes. You will be prompted to reboot.

Step 8 - Reboot the Dongle

Use the Restart page or accept the reboot prompt. The dongle will restart and you will be disconnected from the hotspot.

Reconnect to the dongle’s SSID using the new Access Point password you set in Step 7. Log in with the username and password created in Step 2.

Step 9 - Confirm Successful Connection

Once reconnected, return to the System page. The lower STA section should now display:

  • Your home WiFi SSID
  • Signal strength
  • The IP address assigned by your router

If no IP is shown, the WiFi password or SSID selection may be incorrect. Return to Step 6 to re-enter your WiFi credentials and try again.

Setup Complete

Your WiFi 6 dongle is now configured and will automatically connect to your home network. Your inverter should appear online in the GivEnergy Portal within a few minutes.
