How do I set a Charge Schedule?
You can use a charge schedule to tell your GivEnergy system when to charge the battery from
the grid. This is especially useful if you are on a time-of-use tariff with cheaper overnight
rates. This guide explains how to set up a charge schedule in both the GivEnergy Portal and
the GivEnergy App.
Before You Start
- Make sure the battery is Not Paused (see the Paused Battery guide if needed).
- Ensure any external automations (energy suppliers, Home Assistant, third-party controls) are temporarily disabled to avoid conflicts.
- If you have previously used multiple schedules or different apps, consider resetting schedules before creating new ones.
How to Set a Charge Schedule in the GivEnergy Portal
The Portal offers the most reliable and thorough control of schedules.
- Go to givenergy.cloud and log in.
- Select My Inverter from the left-hand menu and open the card.
- Click the Settings tab.
- Scroll down to the Time Charge section.
- Click Add Time Slot.
Choose:
- Start time
- End time
- Minimum State of Charge (SoC) you want to reach
- Press Submit to save the schedule.
Your inverter will now charge the battery during the selected time window until it reaches the
minimum SoC you set.
How to Set a Charge Schedule in the GivEnergy App
- Open the GivEnergy App and select your system.
- Tap Settings.
- Go to Charge Schedule (or “Time Charge” depending on version).
- Tap Add Schedule.
Choose your:
- Start time
- End time
- Target SoC
- Save the schedule.
The app is easier to use, but the Portal provides the most control and should be used if you
have multiple slots or more advanced setups.
Best Practices for Charge Scheduling
- Avoid overlapping time slots — overlapping windows can cause conflicts.
- Use the Portal for accuracy — Portal schedules override app schedules if they differ.
- Keep it simple — one or two well-defined slots work best.
- Combine with discharge settings if you want the battery to support the home after the cheap rate ends.
Troubleshooting
My schedule isn’t working
- Check the battery is Not Paused.
- Reset settings to default in the Portal, then re-add your schedule.
- Ensure external controls aren’t overriding your times.
- Check the System Data page to confirm the inverter is reading grid voltage correctly.
The battery still doesn’t charge during the time slot
- Make sure your State of Charge (SoC) target isn’t already met.
- Ensure your grid connection is visible in the app/portal (grid reading not blank).
- Verify there are no active alarms or faults.
If your schedule still does not operate as expected, gather screenshots of your Settings page
and contact your installer or GivEnergy Support via support@givenergy.co.uk.
