Can I Install a GivEnergy Battery Myself?

Can I Install a GivEnergy Battery Myself?

GivEnergy battery systems must not be installed by homeowners or unqualified individuals. All batteries, inverters, and All-in-One units operate at high voltage and require specialist electrical knowledge to install safely. Attempting a DIY installation creates a significant risk of electric shock, fire, equipment damage, and system failure.

For these reasons, all GivEnergy battery installations must be completed by a GivEnergy Approved Installer who is a qualified electrician.

Why a Qualified Installer Is Required

A certified installer is trained to:

  • Assess the property’s electrical supply and ensure full compliance with UK regulations.
  • Select correct cable sizes, breakers, isolators, and protective devices.
  • Handle high-voltage DC safely and follow correct shutdown/lockout procedures.
  • Install communication wiring, CT clamps, and meters correctly.
  • Commission the system in the GivEnergy Portal.
  • Configure backup circuits, export limits, and work modes.
  • Ensure the installation meets BS 7671, Part P, and DNO approval requirements.

What Happens If You Install It Yourself?

Self-installation or installation by an unapproved person may result in:

  • Manufacturer warranty being voided
  • Refusal of commissioning on the GivEnergy Portal
  • Unsafe electrical conditions (shock, fire hazards)
  • Incorrect system behaviour or inability to charge/discharge properly
  • DNO non-approval for export
  • Potential invalidation of home insurance

Finding a Qualified Installer

GivEnergy maintains an official network of trained and approved installers. These professionals have received product-specific training and have access to installer-only commissioning tools.

You can locate an installer through the GivEnergy website’s Installer Directory.
