This manual summarises the installation requirements and wiring configuration for the GEM630 / SDM630MCT 3-Phase Meter. It is used to measure import/export power on
three-phase GivEnergy systems.
System Overview
The GEM630 is a three-phase CT-based energy meter used to provide accurate grid import/export
data to GivEnergy inverters. It is required on all three-phase systems for correct power flow
control and export limiting.
Key Features
- Supports 3-phase installations.
- Uses split-core CT clamps (2 m cable each).
- Provides real-time energy import/export measurement.
- Communicates over RS485 using twisted pair.
- Configurable as ID1 for grid metering.
Installation Requirements
- Must be installed on the building’s main incoming supply to monitor all loads.
- Requires a 230 V power supply and voltage reference.
- Requires one twisted-pair RS485 communication cable back to inverter.
- CT clamps must not be cut, extended, or modified.
- Arrow on CT clamps must point towards the load.
Wiring Overview
The GEM630 connection pins are:
- Pin 1: Neutral
- Pin 2 / 3: Meter Power Live (230 V)
- Pin 4–6: L1, L2, L3 Voltage inputs
- Pin 13: RS485 B (-ve)
- Pin 14: RS485 A (+ve)
- Pin 15–20: CT inputs for L1, L2, L3 (white/black pairs)
Communication
- RS485 A → Inverter TX+
- RS485 B → Inverter TX-
- Use twisted-pair cable such as Cat5/6.
- Meters must be set to ID1 for 3-phase grid measurement.
Important Notes
- Every 3-phase GivEnergy system requires one GEM630 (ID1).
- A dedicated 6 A supply may be used to power the meter.
- Incorrect CT orientation will cause reversed readings.
- Do not mix CT clamps between phases.
